How to keep your number when you switch network
You can take your mobile number with you to a new network for free. It takes a text message and usually no more than one working day.
Step by step
- Text PAC to 65075 from the phone you want to move. Your current network will reply with a PAC (porting authorisation code) within a minute. It’s free.
- Your reply also tells you about any early termination charges and how much credit you have left if you’re on pay as you go.
- Give the PAC to your new network when you order, or after your new SIM arrives.
- Your number moves on the date you agree with the new network, normally within one working day. Your old contract is cancelled automatically.
If you want a new number
Text STAC to 75075 instead. You will get a code that cancels your old service when your new one starts, so you don’t pay for both, but you won’t keep your number.
Things to know
- A PAC lasts 30 days. If you don’t use it in time, just ask for a new one.
- You don’t have to give 30 days’ notice when you switch with a PAC. You pay your old network up to the day you switch.
- If you leave before the end of a contract, you may have to pay off the rest of the phone and an early termination charge.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a PAC code?
Text PAC to 65075 from the number you want to keep. It’s free and you get the code by text, usually straight away. You can also ask your network by phone or online.
How long does it take to switch network and keep my number?
Usually one working day from the date you agree with your new network. You may have a short break in service on the day the number moves.
Will I lose my credit on pay as you go?
Credit doesn’t move with your number. Your PAC text tells you how much credit you have; ask your old network whether you can get it refunded.
